Finder Canned Searches [Mac Tip]

Mac OS X only: There is a cool thing buried inside Finder.app.

If you like the current canned searches that you could find on your finder sidebar e.g. All Documents or All Movies, but wished they were more. Worry not.

Below is how to get more of canned searches on your sidebar:
1. Open Finder and hit Shift-Cmd-G.
2. Type in /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/CannedSearches/
3. Drag the smart folders you like to the sidebar.
Now you can easily find all your Applications or PDF files in one place very quickly. :D

Notifier, a new Gmail notifier for Mac on the block [Apps]

Mac OS X only: Today I came across a handy new application called Notify, which has been released by Vibealicious Apps very recently. One thing that makes Notify superior to Google Notifier for Mac is its ability to log into multiple Gmail accounts and monitor them simultaneously. The free application which resides in the menu bar, would simply display the number of unread messages in your Gmail accounts and also notifies you of new messages upon arrival using Growl.

Among promised features of Notify in future releases are, Google Apps support, replying and composing new messages directly in the application, and IMAP support.

As a side note, upon launching Notify, I was surprised to see my account already configured without me doing anything. After some investigation, I realized that my Fluid Gmail Web App was causing the problem, so I simply removed the web app and stored configuration files using AppCleaner and voilĂ , no more pre-configuration.

How to Stop Procrastination [Life Hacks]

I used to procrastinate in my daily life a lot. In fact, I used to keep my entire tasks till the last minute and just did the important ones very poorly in a hectic manner. However, after reading a great mini-guide by Leo Babauta of Zen Habits about coping with procrastination few months back, I ended up doing my tasks absolutely on time without any sort of stress.

Below are three important highlights from "Dead Simple Guide to Beating Procrastination" as Leo calls it, that helped me beat procrastination:
  • Make it the first thing you do today, before checking email or anything else.
  • Just get started. Overcome the initial barrier by diving in.
  • Forget about perfection. Just start doing it, and fix it later.

Hello World

Hello everyone,

Since four years back, I always wanted to start my own blog but I was worried about imprefections that might occur. I am very glad that I am writing my first post. I love to express myself and share my knowledge and things of my interest with the world.

Mac OS is my operating system of choice at home and Windows at my workplace. You might ask why I named my blog, "Digital Crave", well, good question, I have a great deal of interest in technology, productivity, and life hacks. In fact, I never get tired of reading or writing about aforementioned topics i.e. I crave for them.

This is where my journey starts...

Welcome to Digital Crave! :)
